PAGE TWENTY-THREE
PANEL ONE (splash panel) BAXTER puts a newspaper on the table. It’s the Gloaming Gazette. It’s got an article about Bliss-- headline reads “DISAPPEARING CHILDREN MYSTERY SOLVED” or something.
PANEL TWO: CARTER is holding the paper incredulously. BAXTER is grinning at him enigmatically.
CARTER:
This… this was pretty fast. It was just last night!
BAXTER:
That’s Gloaming, pal. I keep telling you. Town’s got its own sense of time.
PANEL THREE: CARTER puts down the paper and eyes BAXTER, who is getting up from the table, keys in his hand.
CARTER:
Wait. You said the Sheriff? I was told the town didn’t have a replacement yet.
BAXTER:
Take a ride with me.
PANEL FOUR: BAXTER takes CARTER in his truck, and rides him around town.
BAXTER:
Gonna drive around town a bit. Tell me what you see.
PANEL FIVE: First, they go to the school. The school is completely rejuvenated-- the graffitti is gone, the windows are repaired-- like it was never abandoned. There is a sheriff’s car parked outside. And a… would there be an ambulance? What would a small town do if they were carrying and cataloguing remains?
CARTER:
What in the--?
