PAGE TWENTY-SEVEN
PANEL ONE: BAXTER drives. His song is on the radio. “RIDE RIDE, RIDE ON DOWN THE HIGHWAY, YEAH--” He is whistling (the whistling continues throughout the next panels) CARTER looks tense.
CARTER narrates:
I didn’t care what bullshit Baxter was saying. I had a ride out of town and I was taking it.
PANEL TWO: FOG begins to rise around BAXTER’s truck.
NARR:
I didn’t notice the fog right away, but I supposed maybe there was a pond or something down the street, and mist was rising from it-
PANEL THREE: CLOSE-UP on CARTER looking out the window at nothing but fog.
NARR:
-and then I couldn’t see anything-
PANEL FOUR: We’re close up on CARTER so we can’t tell if he’s still in the truck, or even if he’s sitting, or what. The fog is everywhere.
NARR:
And then, suddenly I couldn’t hear Baxter whistling any more.”
PANEL FIVE: Zoom out. CARTER is lost in fog. Maybe he’s still sitting in the truck, we can’t tell, fog swirls and obscures.
CARTER:
Baxter?
CARTER2:
BAXTER?!?
